It seems not always true. Take a look at this url: http://video.udn.com , when the video starts to play, it still block the javascript pulldown menu. I've used browser debug tool to check the code of that video player, it did set wmode to transparent. Can you know why?

Just wanted to say thank you for this answer which I have been looking for for some time now, the transparent flash looks much better now the background colour shows around my flash without those annoying white borders.

Cheers

Hi, if you're editing the HTML code of a catalyst file don't forget to change the top param!

Insert "params.wmode = transparent;"
And Delete "params.bgcolor = 'color';"

Also change the wmode of the swf embeed!

That works fine for me!

André.

What you wrote originally totally worked for me. So to answer the girl's question: YES YOU CAN! Because i did it by simply changing "opaque" to "transparent" It was that simple and it made all the difference. You can see it done here: www.safeguardgt.com (This is not the actual url or domain that will be used for this site. But i was told to place it here so my traveling client can preview it.) Thanks so much that was really HELPFUL! but now another problem arises.. By file is too large and there fore takes for ever to show.. How do you get it to run smoother? I tried optimizing the images directly on Flash Catalyst.. but that did make much of a difference. Just so you can an idea of my workflow: i designed the site in Photoshop rgb at 72 dpi. Then inported the psd file in flash catalyst. Am i missing a step here? Was i supposed to open it in fireworks create slices, optimize there, and then import to flash Catalyst?

You rock! I was placing wmode everywhere but inside the below line.

AC_FL_RunContent(
…,
"wmode", "transparent"
);

Doing so fixed my issue!

Thanks!
Mike

Well I did'nt realize this problem existed, but I have a .jsp page that has a "float over" flex app with forms in it, and the weirdest thing happened when textInput where selected : in firefox the window started blinking black as long as the textInput had focus... quite frustrating. I did find the source of this, but it has something to do with wmode=transparent and the textInput being contained in anything extending the Container class... which is pretty much every flex containers.

For this project Ill probably just do a new window hack for FF (I thought only IE6 needed those !).

Just thought id let a warning.
